Does a prepaid token expire? This is a simple but deep question that we are going to be answering in today’s discussion. Stay tuned as we go through it together. 

Prepaid meter tokens are sets of unique codes that translate into electricity credit units when recharged into the meter. They are unique and can only function for the particular meter for which they were generated. 

The prepaid token expires; it has a validity period of three months. Once you generate a prepaid meter token, you are expected to load it into your prepaid meter within three months that you purchased. If you don’t load it within this period, you may not be able to use it again because it becomes worthless once it expires. 

What is a Prepaid Meter Token?

A prepaid meter token is a unique set of 20-digit codes or numbers that translates to electricity units (usually measured in kilowatt-hours, kWh) when loaded into the prepaid meter. Electricity consumers can buy this token from vendors, electricity distribution companies, etc. Once you load this token into your prepaid meter, your prepaid credit balance will be updated automatically, allowing you to enjoy power supply without disruption.

Does prepaid token expire?

Yes, prepaid meter tokens expire. It expires after three months of purchase. This means that if you purchase your prepaid meter token and don’t load it after 3 months, it will expire and you won’t be able to use it again. After these three months, if you try loading the tokens into your meter, you may likely get an ‘’OLD’’ response, which means that your token has expired and become worthless.

Additionally, apart from the fact that the prepaid meter token expires, you are also required to load the token in the sequence that you purchased it. Most of the prepaid meters are designed such that you need to load the first token generated first before you will be able to load another one. Also, if you purchase a token and don’t load it and go ahead to buy up to 10 different tokens after the first purchase without loading the first one, your meter may no longer accept the first token since they are designed to accept prepaid meter tokens in the order they were generated.

How Long Does a Prepaid Token Expire? 

The validity period of a prepaid meter token is 3 months. This means that prepaid tokens only remain valuable for three months after purchase. Hence, we strongly advise that you should load your prepaid token within three months that you purchased to enable you to get value for your money. After these three months, your prepaid meter token will become worthless and you won’t be able to use it again.
